Wintergreen oil is often referred to as Mother Nature’s aspirin. This herb predominantly found in North America. The Native Americans discovered its use and incorporated it in the treatment of muscle and joint pain. They often chewed the plants leaves when they had to run long distances as it helped increase their respiratory capacities so that they could endure the long and arduous journeys. Wintergreen essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties and is 40% stronger than an aspirin. According to Erica Leibert of Harvard University, Wintergreen essential oil contains natural salicylates very close in chemical structure of acetyl salicylic acid found in aspirin. The leaves contain methyl salicylate, which is a chemical compound that is similar to aspirin and cortisone.

 

Often used in healing balms, liniments and ointments for musculoskeletal issues including:

Arthritis / Arteriosclerosis 

Muscle Pain / Nerve Pain / Rheumatism

 

Topical Administration:

Mix 60 drops of essential oil into a 10 ml roll-on bottle with base carrier oil to the appropriate dilution in a or  and rub solution into absorb into body tissue.

 

Transdermal Administration:

Mix 5 drops with 1 cup of epsom salts, 1/4 cup of Himalayan Pink Salt and 1 cup of baking soda.  Add mixture to at least one gallon of hot water and soak feet for 20- 30 minutes.
